Welcome to the website of the North American Thermal Analysis Society (NATAS). It is a great privilege to write this introduction as the new president of NATAS. Please take some time to explore our website further – there are many interesting and exciting things to see and do!
NATAS is proud of the awards it presents each year to both
established/experienced thermal analysts and to those who are just beginning to
work in this field. Students especially should look under the “Awards” tab and
check out the many different awards listed there – including travel awards for
the annual NATAS Conference. The travel awards can significantly cut the cost of
attending our annual conference, and there are multiple awards available!
Speaking of the annual NATAS conferences, I am pleased to report that the 37th
annual conference held last year in
Lubbock
, was a huge success from
both a scientific and a financial standpoint. NATAS is indebted to the hard work
of the 2009 conference committee headed by Sindee Simon, Christoph Schick and
Gordon Meyer for their outstanding and tireless efforts to make the conference a
success. Thanks are also due to others who helped out in a significant way,
including David Jones, Bob Fidler, Eric Schoch, Mike Rich, and Lois Hall.
Planning is now in full swing for the 38th annual NATAS conference,
to be held in
Another benefit NATAS provides to its members is the THERMAL list server. Imagine being able to submit your thermal analysis questions directly to the world’s foremost experts in the field and receive personal replies back within hours! This is exactly what the THERMAL server does – and the networking opportunities it provides are invaluable regardless of one’s level of experience with thermal analysis.
Finally, I urge all thermal analysts visiting this website click on the
“Information” tab and check out the “volunteer opportunities” and “regional
sections” links. As you will see, there are many needs for volunteers at NATAS;
if you are excited by any of these opportunities, please contact me directly at
thomas.ramotowski@navy.mil
or any of the Executive Officers listed on the website. Be a part of our team –
we need your contributions and it is a lot of fun. Another possibility for
involvement is with the local thermal analysis sections scattered throughout North America. Not every region has a local section, but
those which do are also in need of volunteers to help with their operations. The
health of the national thermal analysis organization (NATAS) is improved by
having vibrant local sections. If you are interested in starting/organizing a
local section, please talk to us – we can even provide some start-up funds.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our website. We look forward to a memorable 2010!
Dr. Thomas S. Ramotowski
